The existing dashboard became slow at peak moments — precisely when users needed it most. Data came from multiple sources, screens loaded in pieces, and trust in the numbers eroded.
The approach
We laid the foundation anew: an architecture that handles real-time, and an interface that presents complex data calmly.
- New architecture with a real-time data layer on Supabase
- Virtualisation of heavy tables and charts
- Redesign of the data visualisation within a tight design system
- An AI assistant that answers questions about the numbers instantly
- Performance budget per view, guarded in CI
The result
Load time went from seconds to 0.9 second, the Lighthouse score to 98. Users stay longer and support tickets about slowness have disappeared. The platform runs under maintenance with us, with real-time monitoring.
Behind the scenes
No polished success story — this is what we ran into along the way:
- The first architecture did not handle peak load in load tests — the real-time layer was redesigned before launch.
- The dark theme caused contrast problems in charts; the data visualisation palette was recalibrated.
- The AI assistant ran internally for four weeks first to train out wrong answers.
