Directus is a headless CMS: a place to manage your content, separate from the website that shows it. You manage text, photos and pages yourself, and the same content can appear in more than one place without you entering it twice. Empireyo uses Directus as the content management system for websites and portals we build in Astro or Nuxt.

What Directus is

Your content and your website, kept apart.

A classic CMS like WordPress is website and management in one. Directus only does the management: it puts a clear editing environment on top of a database, and the website fetches the content from there through an API.

You will notice the difference. The website can stay light and fast, because it does not carry a management system. You can renew the website later without moving your content. And the same content can appear on your website, in an app or in a portal at the same time.

When it fits

Not the best choice for every site.

Directus fits when your content is more than a few pages: products, locations, vacancies, articles in several languages, or data that also ends up in an app or portal. Then it pays for that content to have its own, well-organised place.

For a small site that rarely changes it is often too much. Then we choose a static site without a management system, or a CMS you already know. In WordPress or custom we set out that trade-off.

How we set it up

An editing environment that matches how you work.

We start from your content: which types there are, which fields each type has, and who may change what. Directus has permissions down to the field, so an editor sees what they need and nothing more.

Then we build the website in Astro or Nuxt, fetching the content from Directus. Why we choose Directus is explained in Headless CMS: why we choose Directus.

What is a headless CMS?+

A content management system with no website attached to it. You manage your content in one place, and one or more websites or apps fetch that content and show it in their own way.

Is Directus hard to work with?+

Not for the people managing text and photos: you work in forms with clear fields, and you only see what is meant for you. Setting it up is our job.

Can my current content move to Directus?+

Usually, yes. Directus works on an ordinary SQL database, and content from another system can be transferred into it. How much work that is depends on how your content is stored now; we look at that beforehand.
