An Astro developer builds websites with Astro, a framework that turns every page into plain HTML in advance and only sends JavaScript where a page really needs it. Empireyo works with it every day: our own site of more than 450 pages in three languages runs on Astro, as do the sites of Taxi Grou and Ikiz.
Only send what a page needs.
Many modern sites send a hefty load of JavaScript with every page, even when that page only shows text and images. Astro turns this around: a page is plain HTML, and only a part that actually does something, such as a form or a calculator, gets its own script.
You notice it most on a phone with a weak connection: the page is there straight away. And what Google and AI assistants read is exactly what the visitor sees, without a script having to run first.
Three sites in Astro, measured.
Taxi Grou: 33 pages, 29 of them for the places around Grou. On a first visit the homepage loads 355 KB in 8 requests; the pages are 10 to 73 KB.
Ikiz Advocatenkantoor: 74 pages of 24 to 51 KB, with structured data on every page and an llms.txt for AI assistants.
TaalPro: 159 pages in Dutch, English and Farsi, which reads from right to left. On a first visit the homepage loads 247 KB in 23 requests.
Our own site: more than 450 pages in Dutch, English and German, with a register of our own that links every page to its language versions.
Design, build and findability in one pair of hands.
We design the site ourselves: brand identity, screens and the route from visitor to enquiry. Then we build it in Astro, with structured data, breadcrumbs and language versions from the first page, not added later.
If you want to edit text and photos yourself, we add a content management system such as Directus. If the site is small and rarely changes, it can do without.
